Special Announcement: The always fabulous Asian Film Festival will get underway next Thursday. Films screenings and special events will continue until the following Sunday.

Throughout the weekend, the San Diego International Kids' Film Festival will take place at the Schulman Auditorium in Carlsbad. The musical Not Working will open at the El Salon Theatre in San Ysidro. In the weeks ahead, subsequent performances will also be held at Diversionary Theatre and the Chula Vista Library. German Currents Film Festival will screen Precious Ivie at the intimate Digital Gym.

Today (Friday), the Piñatas - The High Art of Celebration exhibition will open at Mingei Museum. The theatrical comedy Imogen Says Nothing will begin performances will begin at San Diego City College. Gilbert Castellanos and Irving Flores will team up to perform Latin Jazz at the La Jolla Community Center. At the Rady Shell, Noche Familiar – Family Night will feature Mariachi music, food, drink, and games for the kids. Global Communities will hold their Hands Across Borders Gala at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla. At South Bay Community Park the delight-filled film Coco will be screened.

Saturday and Sunday, the Old Town Día de los Muertos Festival will happen.

Saturday, the City Heights Dia de los Muertos Festival, the Encinitas Dia de los Muertos Celebration, and the Chula Vista Día de los Muertos will all take place. At the Museum of Art, there will be a talk entitled Reinventing The Power of Women Through the Art of Alejandra Phelts. The Blacktronika: Where I Stand Festival will take place at UCSD's Epstein Family Amphitheater. The Indian Fine Arts Academy will present a Carnatic Vocal Concert at the Seaside Center for Spiritual Living. At the Sunshine Brooks Theatre in Oceanside, the Mexihco...The Journey Continues production will take place. The opera El Ultimo Sueno de Frida Y Diego will be performed at the Civic Theatre with additional shows on November 1st, 4th & 6th. At the Worldbeat Center, they will be celebrating Peter Tosh Day with a performance by Kush & Bloodfiyah Angels. A Deepavali Dhamaka celebration will be held at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre.

Sunday, there will be a Day of the Dead Celebration at the Old Globe in Balboa Park. The House of Scotland will hold their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages. There will be a Dia de los Muertos Celebration in Poway. At Patrick Henry High School, the SDSU Wind Symphony and SDSU Symphony Orchestra's Días de los Vivos concert will celebrate Latin American music. Volver (The Comeback) at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center is a music and dance production that imaginatively reflects the life stories of the show's director, and the dance company, Tango Lovers. The National Theatre Live production of Jack Absolute Flies Again will be screened at the Digital Gym. And, there will be a Día de los Muertos Celebration at Rady Shell.

Monday, Ukrainian metal group Jinjer will perform at the House of Blues. The Arpana Dance Company will perform Indian dance numbers in the Smith Recital Hall at SDSU.

Tuesday, you can celebrate Dia de Muertos with the Women’s Museum of California at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center. The California Center for the Arts in Escondido will hold their 27th Annual Día de los Muertos celebration. San Ysidro will also hold a Dia de los Muertos Festival on Tuesday. At USD, Nomsa Burkhardt and Zimbeat will present a concert and lecture demonstration on music and dance traditions from Southern Africa. Art historian Cornelia Feye will continue her series of lectures at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library with a discussion of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. Mexican progressive rock group Enjambre will perform at the House of Blues.

On Wednesday, Warwick's, in partnership with Book Passage, will present an online talk with Barbara Kingsolver who will discuss her latest book, Demon Copperhead. You can learn to Make Catrina Dolls for Dia de los Muertos at the Mission Hills/Hillcrest Library. The La Jolla Community Center will host a Día de los Muertos Celebration. Norwegian band Wardruna will perform at the Magnolia in El Cajon.

Next Thursday, as mentioned above, the 2022 Asian Film Festival will begin. Charly Lowry will perform at UCSD's Loft. Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef will open several days of shows at the American Comedy Company.

Next Friday, Jimmy Patton and Enrique Platas will perform at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla. Comedian Felipe Esparza will perform at Humphreys. The Mexican documentary Me llamaban (They Call Me) King Tiger will be screened at the Digital Gym.

Next Saturday, Bonita Museum & Cultural Center will host Gathering of Nations, a celebration of indigenous culture. The Carlsbad Music Festival will take place at St. Michael's By The Sea. The 45th Concert of Philippine Music & Dance, Sining SAMAHAN will take place at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre. In Solana Beach, there will be a Native American Art Show Reception. Works will be on display both on Saturday and Sunday of next week. Mexican band Café Tacvba will perform at the Magnolia in El Cajon.

Next Sunday, the House of Lebanon hosts their annual Lawn Program at the International Cottages in Balboa Park. Romani Flamenco singer El Cigala will perform at Humphreys.

Cross-cultural/international-themed theatrical offerings in San Diego include Chasing Shakespeare at the Community Actors Theatre, Baskerville at Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado, Imogen Says Nothing at City College, and the musical Not Working at the Chula Vista El Salon Theatre.

Lastly, don't forget to check out Ongoing and Extended Events as well the generous number of International Films screening in local theaters!
